Boat-tour on the Fernan-Vaz lagoon, to visit the Mission Sainte Anne, the Gorilla Island and the Mpivie River 

THE ”MISSION SAINTE ANNE”
In addition to the CULTURAL ATTRACTION of its iron church built in the workshops of Gustave Eiffel  in 1889, you will discover on foot its majestic bamboo cathedral.
You will cross TRADITIONAL VILLAGES where the Myene (Bantou) customs are still respected, you will have the opportunity to meet the local population and visit their PLANTATIONS.
You will discover an exuberant exotic flora composed of various orchids and lesser known fruit trees like the mangosteen tree, breadfruit tree and the African pear tree.
 The Mission also shelters numerous bird species: hornbill, parrot, sunbird, weaver, flycatcher and owl. A huge colony of fruit-eating bats nests near the Fernan-Vaz Lagoon

  • Departure in the morning to the town of Omboue (half hour driving distance)
  • Access by boat from Omboue (half hour sailing distance)
  • Visit to the mission and typical villages
  • Picnic on the mission included

  • *As an extension to the tour package, visit to the Gorilla Island on the way back

*THE GORILLA ISLAND
AN AREA OF STUDY AND REHABILITATION OF GORILLAS in the wild, located on a little island, Evengue Island, lost in the middle of the huge Fernan-Vaz lagoon.
During the one-hour tour, a specialist of primates will explain the project then guide you through the island to observe different groups of gorillas living in semi-captivity.

  • A few minutes by boat from the Mission Sainte Anne
  • After the “Mission Sainte Anne tour”, on the way  back
  • After the picnic, visit of the Gorilla Island
  • Arrival at the lodge by night

*DISCOVER THE MPIVIE RIVER
Y
ou’ll go up a narrow channel winding its way through thick luxurious vegetation, where it is easy and SAFE to see some crocodiles (“Niloticus”, “dwarf” or “long-nosed”) and Nile monitor sunbathing.
You will go along the tree-lined banks through a patchwork of papyrus, bamboo, raffia, palm-nut and pandanus, a patchwork hosting numerous bird species highly appreciated by ORNITHOLOGISTS. You will see the green-backed heron, the fishing owl, the African fish eagle and many others.

4x4 tour to the village of Ndougou 


THE BOTANICAL GARDEN OF NDZALOUNGOU
Heading for Libreville in an air-conditioned 4-wheel drive, we drive across a secondary forest clump and huge banana plantations, we reach the village of Ndougou and this WONDERFUL CONCENTRATION OF EXOTIC FLORA.
A botanist will lead you through this genuine museum of fragrant tropical fauna. The experience will fill your eyes with colors and provide you with local medicinal recipes to take back home.
This OUTSTANDING ORNITHOLOGIST TOUR gives you to see almost all the species of Gabon’s hornbill, various species of bee-eaters and turaco, a colony of barbet, souimanga.
You’ll observe many monkeys, and some wonderful motley insects.
